Set Design Log
Back To Anything Goes
Conceptually, being set in the 1930's, the boat needs to be decorated in the
art-deco style. The staterooms themselves will be dark wood panelling with,
small areas light green (ie. the spare paint from LSOH) and pickouts in a
dark emerald green. Metalwork, eg. doorhandles or porthole surroungs should
be brass.
- Wooden Chairs
- Two or three plain wooden chairs that don't look two obviously modern.
ISTR that there may be some chairs that fit the bill kicking around the
dressing rooms in Budleigh, but my memory is somewhat hazy. For use in both
Moonfaces cabin and the brig.
- Wooden Table
- Preferably to match the chairs, about 2' square. At a pinch we can
probably build this once we're down there. For use in both Moonfaces cabin
and the brig.
- Armchair
- Something that looks vaguely 1930's era. It will probably need to be
covered in order to fit the colourscheme. For use in Whitneys stateroom.
One other option would be wicker, and to go for a more colonial style.
- Coffee Table
-
- Plenty in the chairstore, but will need woodstaining so that they look
less IKEA like. For use in Whitneys stateroom.
- Bakelite Telephone
- Fairly certain that there is one in the props cupboard.
- Freestanding Mirror
- A full heigh freestanding mirror, for use in Evelyn's cabin. As long
as we can source the mirror section (approx 18" wide by 60" tall) I can
probably fabricate a stand if necessary.
- Single Bed
- A single bed. There is a mattress down in the chairstore, making up a
wooden bed should be fairly easy, although if a 1930's metal bed frame
turns up that would be preferable.
- Bedside Cabinet
- A small beside cabinet
- Bedclothes
- Enough to cover 3 single beds. Sheets need to be white. It would be
preferable if the blankets were green to match the room decor, or
white/cream blankets that could be died green. White pillowcases. One dark
green undersheet to mask the structure of Evelyn's bed.
- Art Deco Vases, Table Lamps, etc...
- Anything that fits the period that will make the staterooms look
believable. If the fit the dark wood/green colour scheme, so much the
better.
- Wireframe Bed
- A wire frame bed. I would have sworn there was one kicking around the
chairstore for months, but it's dissappeared just when I need it! The
older and more uncomfortable looking the better since it's for the ships
brig.
- Tin Bucket
- Props store, again for the brig.
- Bulkhead Lights
- The sort of 6" tall, heavy glass, rounded end lights that you get in the
working areas of ships. I think there are one or two kicking around Dramsoc
from the storeroom refurbishment.
