June 3rd 2004 - Clipping Her Wings

An early start in an attempt to remove the two wings. This is still proving very slow going because the threads of the bolts are coated with paint. After an hours worth of struggling I have managed to get the all but the little M4 bolts holding the engine bay are proving very tricky because they are difficult to access and require a flat bladed screwdriver rather than a spanner.

Got a bit of a closer look at the upper suspension mounting point. It is quite badly buckled at the point where it joins the main part of the chassis. It may have to be cut out and a fresh piece weld in it's place. At the very least some form of gusset is likely to be needed since the metal will surely be fairly weak by the time it's pulled back into place.

Got a mail back from LC Developments, containing prices for the main pieces (all ex. VAT). Can probably get away with just the right hand wing, all the other pieces can be shored up with additional fibreglass behind and filled, sanded and repainted.

Front Wings£140 ea
Bonnet halves
( Note these are the later ones and may need modification )
£200 per pair
Head lamp Unit
(includes shell chrome rim and wiring etc.)
£37 ea
Bumper£80
Front Wings£140 ea
Bumper fittings£10
Indicator lamp£20 ea

Can sense that I'm going to have trouble finding the Cortina parts since the cars are no longer readily available. May have to buy a second hand Cortina, swap the suspension assemblies and send the second hand car to the breakers. Probably around the £500 mark for a reasonable car, much less if I can find one already en-route to the breakers.
