Rebuilding Kate

June 7th 2004 - The Hunt

Received a mail over the weekend from a breaker up in Wrexham who has a couple of MkV Cortina's in stock. It's going to cost £150 for the front axle assembly, which is still cheaper than buying a whole second hand car for £500 ripping out the bits I need and then having to dispose of what's left. I'm fairly hopefully that I can get it back on it's wheels by the end of the month, and the bodywork reassembled (although probably not painted) in time for the trip to Devon at the end of July.

Received a mail from LC Developments, the lead time on the fibreglass parts is two weeks. In order to have a chance of assembling stuff in July this means that I need to place an order before the weekend of the 19th. I will wait until I've got the axle assembly before placing the order.

Received a letter from the AA who are going to charge me for the recovery since it isn't covered by my membership. I need to talk to the insurance company to find out how much of the rebuild they are willing to reimburse me. My current estimates put the rebuild at around £1000-£1500 since the cost of a re-spray (in the two colours) is still an unknown quantity.
