Various purchasing jobs were first order of the day. Firstly a call to KitFit to get hold of the rubber suspension bushes. The gentleman on the far end of the phone also offered advice on how to fit the bushes. He recommended using a piece of tin plate wrapped around the bushes and then compressed using jubilee clips. Once the bush is small enough to fit through the hole squeeze it through using a socket and bench vice. Make sure plenty of washing up liquid is used to grease it's passage. Dropped a cheque in the post to him, so hopefully the parts should arrive early next week.
Called LC Developments with regards to the indicator lamp and bracket. Richard Laking is still on holiday and nobody else knows anything about it, so it'll have to wait until next week when he returns.
Final call was to Springbridge motor factors, just around the corner from where I used to work in Ealing. They said that they wouldn't be able to get hold of a new radiator MGB v8 Radiator, but that they could recondition my old one for £125. I'll drop the radiator around to them next Tuesday, and should have it back before the end of the day.
First job was to sort out the steering. Still couldn't find a nut that would fit the passenger side track rod end, probably because it's an old imperial thread. Swapped the track rod end for the undamaged passenger side original track rod end. Located the relevant castelated nut and fitted everything together, still need to put locking wire through to ensure the nut can come loose. Adjust the drivers side so that the wheels are pointing more or less parallel, will have to get this adjusted properly eventually.
Started rebuilding the stabiliser support strut, took the old strut with it's tapped plate and cut the bent end off using the chop saw. With the chop saw set at the same angle a new piece of box section was cut. After having to reset the wire feed settings on the welder four welds to join the new box section to the original strut. The welds are definitely neater than when I started two weeks ago, didn't even need any cleaning up. By bolting the new piece back to back with the strut on the opposite side the opposite strut could be used as a drilling bush to get the 10mm hole in the top into the correct place. Marked the diagonal cut at the very top and back into the chop saw to cut it to length. Offered the piece up and it fits correctly between the mount point on the chasis and the front of the sub-frame.
Loosened off the radiator and manouvered the stabiliser bar underneath it and into position so that it could be attached to the two stabiliser struts. Bolted the stabilser bar into place, but need the bushes before it can be attatched to the suspension components.
Started looking at the nose cone. The mounting points for the grill had separated from the fibreglass. Araldited the interface between the metal and the fibreglass shell and then used P40 fibreglaas compound to glass around the back to hold them in place properly. Left this drying overnight before
