September 1st 2004 - Stabiliser Bushes

Dropped the radiator off with Springbridge Motor factors for them to recondition it. Then off to college to pick up the tub of glass strands in order to make fibreglass.

Spent time working on the inside of the wing backing up the rope that had been set in resin with actual fibreglass now that I've got the chopped glass strands. It's not as neat as the original wing because it's strands rather than a strip of woven net, but it will serve the same purpose and can't actually be seen from the outside.

A trip into B&Q to pick up some 8mm studding and jubilee clips in order to make a jury rigged bush insertion tool. Onto the M8 studding were threaded in order, an M8 nut, a penny washer, the bush, the stabiliser bar, a deep throat 21mm socket another penny washer and another M8 nut. Around the bush was wrapped a piece of thin steel compressed with the jubilee clips. Everything is judiciously coated in Fairy liquid for lubrication and the M8 nuts tightened. After much cursing and adjustment of the rig I managed to get the bush approximately a quarter of the way through the hole, it's final position needs to be half way through the hole. Removed the M8 studding which by this point causes problems because the fatter part of the bush can't compress enough with the studding in place. Used the bench vice and a socket to push the bush through the steel constriction jacket and on through the stabiliser arm.
