Rebuilding Kate

September 24th 2004 - First Tentative Steps

An early start with the intention of getting the car into a road legal condition. The two remaining issues are the lack of an indicator and a front number plate.

The indicator took longer than expected, the aluminium backing had to be drilled to accept the lamp housing. Drilled and tapped threads into the tabs on the backing piece allowing it to be attached to the wing. Also had to cut a 25mm hole in the wing because the rubberised backing on the new fitting stands a lot prouder than the older fittings.

Decided to take the car out on it's first ginger steps just around the block. Got as far as the second turn and got stuck behind a dustcart. Finally remembered where reverse was and turned around to come home. The steering isn't quite right and it is visually obvious that the drivers side wheel is currently out of alignment. This will need to be rectified over the next few days before any further foray is attempted.
