September 28th 2004 - A Clean

The driving lamp arrived first thing this morning. The mounting point had to be re-drilled to accept the M10 bolt, after that it went on smoothly. The passenger side driving lamp problem was chased down to a bad connection, and after ramming the bullet connectors home slightly harder it now functions. Can't test the drivers side lamp because an H1 lamp is required.

Bolted the tub end of the bonnet into place properly and fitted an angled spacing wedge to the nosecone end of the hinge. Spent a while straightening out some of the large dents and tears in the bonnet. It is by no means perfect but will suffice until I get around to fitting the new bonnet halves. Fitted the drivers side front bonnet catch to the engine bay side wall, this also incorporates the bonnet support which is useful.

Glassed in two top brackets to support the mudguard. Tidied up some of the cabling behind the drivers headlamp to ensure that it can't foul the wheel when moving. Added a small bracket to the inside of the engine bay side wall, the wiring loom and oil pressure hose are cable-tied to this to stop them fouling both the steering column and more importantly the exhaust headers.

Shifted the steering wheel so that the bar on it lies horizontal when the wheels are straight.

Finally a brief clean to remove the months of dust and gunk that have built up on the bodywork. Topped up the oil and coolant ready for another tentative foray into the world.
