Rebuilding Kate

April 21st 2005 - Back, just...

Kate is finally back from the paint shop and looking much, much better for being the right colour. Things are never easy however and she initially failed to start, the cause being the exhausts shorting out the live terminal of the starter motor. A quick trip underneath to move the bracket around and apply some insulation tape and she roars back into life. However, whilst underneath I did notice that the drivers side exhaust mountings had completely given way.

Plenty of work to be done over the weekend, firstly the exhausts mountings will have to be patched up in some form before I can take her out again. I'd also like to get an insulating cap of some sort over the live terminal of the starter motor so that it can't happen again. The oil line ought to be replaced at the same time since I think the repair patch is leaking slightly. Also need to dum-dum paint the inside of the wing and Por-15 the bare metal. Whilst the wheel is off I'll swap it for the spare to try and determine if one of them being unbalanced was causing the vibration on the steering at 60mph. The numberplate also needs bolting on properly instead of the current tape and the running board strips need attaching to the new wing.

There's still the electrics to do, the driving lamps and the indicator return both need looking at. Finally I need to get some stainless steel exhausts priced up because the current ones aren't going to survive the summer.
