Lots and lots of work this afternoon. Swapped around the wheels, checked all of the steering and suspension setup, gunked the underside of the wing, fixed up the exhausts again and tinkered with the indicator stalk. Finally managed to take some photo's of her with her new paintwork.
First up was to remove the drivers side front wheel and Dum-Dum coat the inside of the wing. For some reason I was expecting the Dum-Dum to be brushable, in the end I had to treat it like putty and mould it to the underside of the wing with my fingers.
With the wheel off a quick check of the steering and suspension system. I had to tighten the nylocks on the steering linkage ball joint which leads me to suspect that the nylocks need replacing. I'll have to put in an RS order for a pair of large nuts to replace the old ones. Also inserted a retaining pin into the castellated nut that secures the upper suspension arm to the sub-assembly. Noted that the nearside tyre is very close to the rubber bump stop, a problem that isn't shared with the offside. Put the spare wheel on in place of the existing front wheel to check whether the existing wheel is unbalanced.
Loosened off all of the exhaust brackets on the offside and twisted the entire assembly to stop the exhaust fouling both the chassis and the rear suspension. Bit the bullet and replaced the rubber mounts on the nearside and performed the same checks to ensure that everything was clear of the rear suspension.
Considered trying to take a quick spin up the road, but Putney hill was jammed solid.
Had a brief look at the driving lamps, they worked briefly but then died again. I still haven't got a clear idea of where they're being controlled from so I can't tell whether it's just a loose connection, or whether one of the components is failing.
Dismantled the steering column controls to take a look at the indicator stalk, the auto-return has given up the ghost. My suspicion is that the mechanism is just too old and gunked up to function properly any more, so I'll have to get hold of a replacement at some point.
